Florida Governor Ron DeSantis issued an ultimatum to Florida legislators today. He wants lawmakers to fix the issues with Florida's medical marijuana system. Recent lawsuits over patients being denied smoking as a method of ingestion and the ability to grow their own medicine have cost taxpayers quite a bit of money. The fiscally conservative Governor wants legislators to weaken the smoking ban and open up the current market to more licensed businesses.
Florida's legislative session begins on March 5th, 2019 and will wrap up May 3rd, 2019. However, most legislative negotiating will occur during committee weeks. Due to this crucial fact and limited timetable, NORML chapters from across the Sunshine State will gather in Tallahassee next week to demand lawmakers address the current shortcomings of the medical marijuana industry.
